Grandmere Lake Natural Area is a remote high-altitude wilderness preserve in northern Colorado, known for its pristine alpine lake, subalpine forests, and excellent opportunities for low-impact recreation.
Grandmere Lake Natural Area is located near Cameron Pass in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests of northern Colorado. The area protects a fragile subalpine ecosystem characterized by lodgepole pine and Engelmann spruce forests, alpine meadows, and wetlands surrounding the shimmering Grandmere Lake. At an elevation around 10,000 feet, this natural area offers a peaceful refuge from urban development and serves as a habitat for diverse wildlife such as elk, moose, black bears, and a variety of bird species including the rare boreal owl and northern goshawk. Recreation opportunities are centered on hiking, wildlife viewing, photography, and snowshoeing in winter. The Grandmere Lake trail is a popular but less crowded route that rewards visitors with scenic views of the lake and surrounding peaks.
